What’s so noble about golf? What exactly are golf’s “three noble truths” – and why do you refer to them as “noble”? The word “noble” is highly significant. I borrowed it based on my long study of Buddhism. Here’s why: 2500 years ago, Buddha wandered for seven years looking for truth and enlightenment. Then Buddha finally got fed up. He said, “Okay, that’s it!” He stopped wandering, sat under a fig tree and vowed to keep meditating until he found his truths and attained enlightenment. Twenty-four hours later, he discovered his four truths – dealing with life as suffering, the root of suffering, the end of suffering and the eight-fold path of enlightenment.
